Stock Market Crash Indicators

Buffett indicator. Stock market value is the Federal Reserve’s quarterly market value of US nonfinancial corporate stock (Z.1 Financial Accounts, via FRED), divided by nominal GDP (BEA, via FRED), from 1947. The latest quarter is carried to today with the daily move of the Wilshire 5000 total market index, and GDP is the latest reported quarter. The Fed’s measure leaves out banks and insurers, so readings sit a little below total-market versions; every point in the history is measured the same way.

|---|
Sally deploys her down payment plus closing costs into the home and keeps the rest invested. She pays mortgage P&I plus property taxes, insurance, HOA, and maintenance every month. Jack invests his entire starting savings and pays the asking rent each month.
Each month both characters take their identical income, pay their housing cost, and invest the leftover at your chosen return rate (e.g. S&P 500 ~8% long-run). End-of-horizon net worth = invested portfolio (both) + home equity (Sally only).
Buy vs Lease Car Calculator
Donald pays cash, Frank finances, Nancy rolls leases: identical income, savings and hold period. Each invests whatever is left after car costs. Ending net worth = portfolio + car equity.
2026 prospective acquisitions: federal new, used and commercial clean-vehicle credits ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. No federal EV credit is modeled. Any dealer discount should be reflected in your actual price or lease quote. IRS eligibility and historical exceptions.

Tax-Loss Harvesting Estimator
Selling a loser banks a capital loss and saves tax now. But it lowers your cost basis, so much of the saving is deferred, not erased. This estimates the honest, net value.
The net-benefit scenario counts current-year tax savings only. Carryforward is shown separately with no assumed use date or present value. Future basis-recovery tax assumes the full modeled gain is taxable and no carryforward offsets it; actual carryforward usage can lower that cost. Filing status is assumed single or married filing jointly ($3,000 ordinary-income offset).

About these numbers. Hedge funds aren't required to disclose returns, so everything here except Pershing Square (publicly listed, audited NAV) is compiled from press reporting: LCH Investments annual manager rankings (via the Financial Times / Institutional Investor), Bloomberg, CNBC, Reuters, Hedgeweek, fund investor letters, and Gregory Zuckerman's The Man Who Solved the Market for Renaissance. AUM and returns are point-in-time, approximate and may be revised. Trailing periods (1Y to 20Y) are annualized through calendar 2025, not live, so a brokerage quote will differ: Pershing Square rows are fund NAV performance, while the listed shares (PSH / PSHZF) trade daily at a discount to NAV and reflect the current year's moves. "n/d" = not disclosed; "Beats S&P?" compares since-inception annualized return to the S&P 500's long-run ~10.5%/yr total return. Not investment advice.

Return Drivers
The S&P 500 moved this year, but why? Gains can only come from earnings, the P/E multiple, buybacks, and currency. This page splits the move into those pieces.
Fund flows by asset class
Where the money is moving: US-listed ETF flows by asset class, region and sector, plus income, thematic and alt channels. Data as of -.
Asset class, sector, regional, thematic and income flows: State Street Investment Management’s “US-Listed ETF Flash Flows” monthly report (Bloomberg data).
Global gold ETFs: World Gold Council gold ETF flows research (monthly).
US spot-crypto ETFs: an independent tracker’s daily creation and redemption tallies, plus press reporting.
Monthly net flows chart: each bar is that report’s own month column, split into equity, fixed income and every other asset class combined. No archived report exists for January, February or May 2026, so those three months are worked out from later reports’ trailing three-month and year-to-date columns.

About this site
Arsenal.finance is an open collection of financial tools, live market data, and original research. Everything is meticulously built from scratch.
Why
To give retail investors institutional-grade tools without the institutional price tag, and help them make substantially smarter financial decisions in the process.
About me, Luis Nunez
Finance and data enthusiast based in Miami, originally from Venezuela. Contrarian by nature. I build financial tools, research macro trends, and obsess over portfolio construction, market cycles, and economic history. I love placing bets and taking risks. Perhaps a bit too much.
Investment philosophy
Most people should own the market and skip the stock picking, market timing, and price predictions. The data backs this up. Unless you work inside a company, you have no real insight into what's happening there. The only traders I've seen make money consistently are insiders. Everyone else might have a good couple of years before ending up roughly where they started. Beating the market over a long horizon is rare enough to qualify as a statistical anomaly.
Rare is not impossible however. And picking stocks, trading events, calling tops and bottoms is genuinely fun, part of why we're here in the first place. So I advocate for a hybrid approach: split your portfolio disproportionately in two. A core portfolio that holds the majority of your money and lets you sleep at night, and a betting portfolio that lets you age without the regret of missing the trade you were sure about.
Having witnessed firsthand the decline of Venezuela, once a rich and prosperous country, it shouldn't be a surprise that I'm more a fan of Smith, Friedman and Hayek than Keynes. Free markets allocate capital better than central planners ever could. Monetary policy matters more than fiscal stimulus. Inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon. Government intervention usually creates more distortions than it solves.
I also believe index funds are one of the greatest creators of prosperity in the world. They democratized wealth building. Before Vanguard launched the first index fund in 1976, investing was a game rigged for Wall Street insiders with high fees and information advantages. Today, anyone with $100 can own a slice of the 500 largest companies on earth for virtually nothing. That's prosperity at scale.

Privacy Policy

The short version: arsenal.finance has no accounts, no sign-up and no login. It does not ask you who you are, it does not build a profile of you, and it does not sell or share anything about you with anyone. Everything below is the long version of that.
What the site does not do
- No user accounts, passwords, or sign-up of any kind.
- No advertising network, no ad pixels, no retargeting tags.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of visitor data. There is no data business here.
- No request for your name, address, phone number, income, portfolio, or any financial detail.
The numbers you type into the tools
Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your own browser. Your salary in the FIRE calculator, your balances in the net worth calculator, your loan terms in the mortgage calculator: none of it is ever sent to a server, never reaches the site owner, and is gone the moment you close the tab. It is arithmetic on your own machine.
My Arsenal and Daily Brief save information in this browser. This includes followed asset symbols, selected economic and real-estate indicators, fixed category assignments, saved learning widgets and calculator, chart ranges and collapsed states, visit and last-seen timestamps, comparison snapshots of prices, economic observations, model scores, momentum readings and disclosure IDs, and the dates of the economic releases the Daily Brief has already reported, so a release is described once rather than every day. A visit timestamp is recorded when a site page loads, even if data feeds fail. A browser session continues across pages; after 30 minutes away or in a new tab, saved observations become the comparison baseline.
These records are held in local storage and session storage. They are not uploaded as a personal profile, synced to an account, or sent to our analytics. They remain until you remove them, clear browser data or use “Clear My Arsenal & visit history” on My Arsenal. That control clears this feature’s saved selections and history; it does not clear unrelated display preferences or data caches. A subsequent visit starts recording again. Private browsing, blocked storage and browser cleanup may prevent persistence.
Fetching data does send the requested asset search text, ticker or economic-series identifier to our data proxies and providers. Widget selections and visit-comparison history are not included in those requests. The hosting and data providers may receive ordinary request metadata as described below. See the Data Policy for sources, refresh timing, snapshot limits and briefing methodology.
Server and CDN logs
The site is hosted behind a CDN, and like every web server on the internet it writes ordinary request logs: IP address, user agent, the URL requested, timestamp, and response status. These exist to serve the pages, block abuse, and diagnose outages. They are retained by the hosting and CDN providers under their own standard retention windows and are not used to build any profile or mailing list.
Analytics
The site uses privacy-preserving, cookieless analytics to see which pages get read and roughly where readers arrive from. They record page path, referrer, approximate country, device type and screen size. They do not set advertising cookies, do not track you across other websites, and do not receive anything that identifies you personally.
To learn whether readers find the site worth coming back to, your browser also keeps a small note in local storage: the day of your first visit, the section you first landed on, and the days you have visited since. At most once a day it sends the site an anonymous tally, such as "first visit" or "came back the next day", with no identifier attached, so the site can count return visits without knowing who anyone is. Clearing your browser data erases the note, and the opt-out below turns it off too.
If you would rather not be counted at all, there are two ways out and both of them work. Run any content blocker, which stops the analytics scripts reaching you in the first place. Or visit arsenal.finance/?notrack=1 once, which sets a permanent flag in this browser so those scripts never load again; visiting arsenal.finance/?track=1 undoes it.
Things you choose to send
Two places on the site accept input that actually leaves your browser, and both are entirely optional:
- The feedback form. If you report a bug or send an idea, the message is delivered to the site owner. The email field is optional and exists only so there is a way to reply to you. It is never added to a mailing list.
- The newsletter. Subscribing is handled by the newsletter platform, not by this site, and it is governed by that platform's own privacy policy. You can unsubscribe from any issue.
Third parties the pages talk to
Pages pull live numbers from outside providers: economic series from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, filings from the SEC, and market, crypto and commodity prices from commercial data feeds. Charts and fonts load from public CDNs. Because your browser makes those requests, those providers see your IP address and user agent, exactly as they would if you visited them directly. This site sends them nothing about you beyond the request itself.
Outbound links to other services, including the newsletter, the community server, the tip jar and every source document, leave this site entirely. Once you follow one, that service's own privacy policy applies.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them. Since it collects no personal information from anyone, there is nothing held about a child to delete.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have a legal right to access, correct, or delete personal data a site holds about you. In practice there is nothing here to access or delete: no account exists, and the analytics hold no record tied to you. If you have sent a message through the feedback form and want it removed, ask and it will be deleted.
Changes
This policy may change as the site changes. The version posted at this URL is always the current one, and the date at the top says when it was last revised.

Data Policy
Last updated October 5, 2026
Arsenal combines third-party financial data with browser-local selections and observations. This policy explains what is saved and how Daily Brief is assembled. See also the Privacy Policy.
What your browser saves
My Arsenal saves asset symbols, followed economic and real-estate widgets, fixed category assignments, saved learning widgets and calculator, chart ranges and expanded or collapsed states. Daily Brief saves visit-start and last-seen timestamps, the latest successful comparison observations, momentum readings, risk and regime model outputs, and identifiers of disclosures already seen. Older saved watchlists are migrated automatically. We keep a bounded latest snapshot plus up to 600 recent chart observations per followed indicator, rather than an unlimited browsing history.
Local storage persists between visits; session storage keeps one comparison baseline while you move between pages. A site page load records a visit even when feeds fail. After 30 minutes away or a new tab, the next visit compares available observations with the prior saved snapshot. A first visit or missing snapshot is explicitly labeled: we do not manufacture a “since last visit” change.
Where data goes
Your widget selections, saved visit history and comparison records stay in this browser and are not sent to analytics or synced to an account. Looking up an item sends its symbol or series identifier to the relevant data provider, usually through an Arsenal proxy. Those requests carry normal network metadata. Clearing browser storage or using “Clear My Arsenal & visit history” removes the saved feature data; later visits begin saving again. There is no cross-device recovery.
Source dates and refresh timing
Market quotes and price histories come from Yahoo Finance. Economic indicators come primarily from FRED; earnings schedules from Finnhub; congressional disclosures from the official House and Senate filings, read nightly, plus the site’s hourly filing feed; headlines from the site’s news aggregation feed. Market observations may be delayed. Economic observation dates refer to the measured period, not necessarily the publication date; historical values may be revised.
Active briefing and watchlist pages check for updates approximately every five minutes and pause their feature requests while hidden. Research inputs are cached for approximately 30 minutes; the momentum ranking is recomputed every night. Provider and proxy caches can add delay. Sources that fail remain unavailable; their absence is not interpreted as “unchanged.” Last successful comparison observations are preserved.
Cap-rate surveys, the published FOMC projection reference, private-capital references and curated delinquency data retain their stated publication periods. They are not intraday feeds. Economic calendar dates may be recurring estimates and are marked accordingly. Earnings schedules can change; being on the calendar does not prove results have been published. Congressional disclosures may be filed weeks after a transaction.
How Daily Brief is written
The briefing is assembled from deterministic templates and available observations, with a main read capped at 500 words. It does not invent analysis when a feed is missing. The main briefing is the same for all readers. It considers the US Economy and US Real Estate indicator catalog, ranks supported changes against measure-specific thresholds, and omits small moves and sources without comparable prior observations. A separate IPO calendar lists expected listings over the coming seven days; dates and pricing may change. Prices and Technical Monitor ratings compare against the prior trading session; macro indicators compare consecutive source observations; Crash Risk compares with a reconstructed prior monthly model snapshot; Recession Risk compares with the same model run on the data available at the end of the previous month; regime compares classifications across monthly macro observations. These historical reconstructions use currently available data and can include revisions. Earnings appear when reported EPS differs from the available estimate. Congressional trades and technical rating changes list at most ten each; the rest stay on their own pages. Personal watchlists do not select or rank the main briefing. The edition changes automatically with Eastern time; a separate “Since your last visit” view shows saved comparisons.
The crash-risk score uses the same model as the Crash Risk page. It is a model score, not a calibrated forecast probability. Regime classification follows the GDP/inflation model used by the regime page. The momentum section reads the Momentum Monitor ranking of every US-listed stock, recomputed every night after the close. Successful coverage and comparison dates are disclosed; stocks whose prices failed to load are left out rather than counted as unchanged. Price changes exclude dividends and other distributions.
Headlines are filtered for recency, duplicates and promotional language, then prioritized by broad-market subjects such as central banks, inflation, employment, policy and geopolitical developments. Publisher links provide the source; selection is not a guarantee that a story is complete or the day’s most important event. A disclosure appearing for the first time means newly observed by this browser, not necessarily newly traded.
Controls and limitations
You can add and remove items within seven fixed categories: Stocks, ETFs, US Economy, US Real Estate, Crypto, Commodities and Learning. Historical charts offer 1-, 5- and 10-year views where data exists; younger assets and shorter series only show available observations. Learning offers compact Dictionary, Asset Returns and CAGR calculator widgets. Calculator inputs and dictionary queries are held in the open page; only the widget selection and display preferences are saved. Asset name searches send the search text to the quote provider for suggestions. The feature supports up to 60 saved widgets. Removing a widget stops following it; use the clear-data control to remove all saved comparison records. Private browsing, storage restrictions or clearing site data may reset your selections and history.
All data and research are informational. Confirm consequential figures at the original source. The Terms of Service describe the site’s general limitations.
