About this tool
Add up your assets and liabilities to get your net worth, see the composition, and place yourself among US households: the tool computes your percentile from the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances, both overall and within your age group.
Net worth is the scoreboard that income hides. A high salary with high spending can trail a modest salary with a high savings rate within a decade, and tracking the number a few times a year, same method every time, is one of the simplest habits that correlates with actually building wealth.
Should I include my home in net worth?
Yes, at market value, with the mortgage on the liability side. For spending-power questions many people also track a liquid net worth that excludes home equity, since you have to live somewhere.
How does the percentile comparison work?
Your total is ranked against the distribution in the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances, the standard dataset on US household wealth, overall and within your age bracket. Age-group rank is usually the fairer mirror.
How often should I update it?
Quarterly or a few times a year is plenty. The trend across years is the signal; month-to-month wiggles are mostly your investments' volatility, not your behavior.
