Monthly Census Bureau release of new housing units started during the month. Reported in single-family and multifamily breakdown. Rate-sensitive — falls hard when mortgage rates rise.

2024-2025: multifamily starts collapsed (oversupply digesting from the 2021-2022 boom); single-family starts stabilized. Big leading indicator for construction employment, lumber, building products.
