Definition

Cash from operations minus capital expenditures. The actual cash a business generates after maintaining its assets. What's available for dividends, buybacks, or debt paydown.

Formula

FCF = Operating cash flow − Capex

Example

Apple: $111B operating cash flow − $12.7B capex = $98.3B free cash flow.
