Definition

Consumer Price Index. Measures inflation by tracking price changes of a basket of goods. The Fed targets 2% CPI growth. Above that = inflation; below = deflation risk.

Example

CPI rose 3.5% YoY = the average consumer's costs went up 3.5% compared to last year.
